Perfume as Practice AW19
Perfume as Practice AW19 was an exhibition at Centrespace Gallery, Bristol which took place on 3rd - 8th October 2019. The exhibition looked at the artistic potential of perfumery and how it can accommodate portraiture. The exhibition comprised 18 perfumes, each a portrait of another artist. These perfume portraits were achieved through a process that began by asking artists the question ‘why do you make art?’ Then, through a method of intuition and investigation, I created relative to the response received – capturing the essence of the artist.
The exhibition was supported by visual elements pertaining to the theme of ‘Voyage’. This theme was chosen as it referenced Bristol’s history as a port town while acting as a metaphor for the journey’s artists embark upon in their careers.
These visual elements were designed by myself and the artists I created a perfume portrait of; resulting in the first occasion Perfume as Practice has exhibited the work of artists alongside their perfume portrait. This enabled the audience to associate the perfumes with the artists involved in a direct and meaningful way: adding a new dimension to Perfume as Practice.

​I also hosted a perfume making workshop during Perfume as Practice AW19. The workshop introduced the art of perfumery and allowed participants to make a perfume of their own.
